what the cover of the first issue of herbal roots WON'T look like!the results of my informal survey were highly divided, which was surprising to me...i thought about doing two versions but i am doing so much hand work on it that i can't imagine doing it twice at this point. having fairies or gnomes, etc. would also require me to create an entirely different version of the stories, poems, activities, etc. so, for now, the only 'magical' creatures in it will be woodland animals and plants. once the ball gets rolling, if there is enough interest, i may try to expand and create two versions.
if all goes well (read, i figure out how to work the scanning and pdfing process), i hope to launch the first issue sometime the last week of january.

It is darling. I don't really understand the objection to the magical creatures but I am sure that is because I am thoroughly immersed in them around here.
I don't object, for the record. I just think magic waters down the natural science, and I wouldn't be buying it for fairy tales, I would be buying it for herbal information.
We're immersed in them too, but they automatically make things Make Believe, and therefore my kids wouldn't think the herb stuff was true.
I'm not sure I'm making sense.
it makes perfect sense to me...i don't tell my kids the tale of santa claus because of the same reason! but, we do have lots of fairies and gnomes and they are not presented as real or make believe, they just are. oxymoron?
and truly, there won't be a lot omitted leaving them out as they mostly would have been as decorations on the pages. but, if it's going to alienate some and not allow them to be able to even view the packet then i'd rather not risk it. i'm trying to reach as broad of an audience as possible because i truly believe everyone should have a good foundation of herbal knowledge...you never know when you might need it!
we're finally back online and how wonderful to check in with your brood. what wonderful and creative projects you all have been up to. fantastic! hope your wintering has been going well.
just my two cents worth, but my grandkids respond well too making things magical with fairies, gnomes and other mythical creatures. you make them however you are inspired to tansy and i am sure they will be lovely and informative too! hugs from leslie at comfrey cottages
