manic depressive weather

last week was full of ice and snow and all sorts of wintery goodness. today, it was in the mid-50's. i look out my window and watch the sheets and towels flapping in the breeze, grateful that i can hang such large laundry items outside and get them dry, mostly for the sheer convenience but also for the fresh smell.

the nice weather is great for getting the kids outside to enjoy the fresh air, which means they'll most likely sleep well tonight, which means, i will too! this past week has been such a stress on my body that i've come down with a cold. sage had it too poor thing. his throat was so swollen a few days back, i'm surprised he could even eat anything. no redness though and now, except for a runny nose, he is fine. i'm getting there, just mostly have the runny nose and a headache. i'm trying to drink more water today to help combat it. spilanthes was my friend for helping to numb my throat when it did hurt. a shot of the tincture in the back of the mouth was a much more pleasant version of sucrets, stuff i hated when i was a child but recall my mother giving me. anyway, i hope to get back to a normal sleep cycle that doesn't include waking in the middle of the night to give lavender a couple of shots and waking to sage every 45 minutes or so to nurse.

seems that everyone around me is getting back into the gardening bug. it hasn't hit me yet although i did order onions through dixondale farms. i was going to try to grow them from seed this year but i'm feeling so overwhelmed with other things that i thought it might be wise to skip that this year. however, i do need to get out all the maple taps and get ready for that! this thaw reminded me it's time. with the rising costs of food and all the food scares, i am really gearing up to make us more self sufficient and less dependent on the food sources this year.

i hope everyone is having a great weekend and that you too are getting some of this lovely weather!

I was thinking the same thing about the maples today. It's warm here, but not 50's yet (high 30's, maybe 40's). Seed starting, maple tapping, chicks, it will all be here in a blink of an eye. Plus, both cows will be calving in April. I love this life (and I love homesteading busy-ness), but the mood is still not there with me either.

Hope you feel better soon. I hope you get the rest your body and mind need.

Hi Tansy , Glad to hear everyone is feeling better. We had a beautiful day too , 62 degrees , felt great. I got a couple loads of laundry hung out and dried also.

I plan to order your herbal newsletter this week. I also want to blog about it , will it be o.k. to use the front cover pic on my blog when I post about it ?

I am planning my garden but I haven't any seed ordered yet. There is plenty of time for that around here.

I hope you are able to get some decent rest, soon.

hope you're feeling more rested and stronger.

we have had a couple of very good days where i wanted to hang everything outside, but those days for some reason have been to hectic for me to do it. looks like the second half of this week will give me another chance!

we have yet to order onions- i am not sure if we'll do dixondale or brown's of omaha. soon we'll be starting seeds, and turning the garden!

we are also pouring our all, this year, into food preservation and self-sufficiency.
